Dr Lim Ing Ruen obtained her MBBS degree from the National University of Singapore in 1995. She was selected to be in the pioneering batch of the Singapore Otorhinolaryngology Training Programme. She underwent general otolaryngological and general surgical training and was made a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, United Kingdom in 2000.

While practicing general otolaryngology, she then went on to receive further subspecialty training in the field of rhinology and advanced endoscopic sinus surgery in 2003 on a scholarship from the Ministry of Health under the Human Manpower Development Programme. She was the first Singaporean doctor to be accepted into the prestigious one year hands-on fellowship programme at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA. During that year, she was a clinical lecturer involved in student teaching and was also a surgical fellow under the tutelage of Professor David W Kennedy who is a pioneer of endoscopic sinus surgery in USA. She was trained in the latest techniques in advanced endoscopic sinus surgery and stereotactic computerized navigational imaging and was involved complex or revision sinus cases and anterior skull base cases referred by other institutions across USA.

APPOINTMENTS

Upon her return to Singapore, Dr Lim started an Otorhinolaryngology Service in Alexandra Hospital and saw it through its expansion of subspecialties. She was on the Operating Room Committee of Alexandra Hospital and on the Hospital Planning Committee for the new Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. She is currently on the Operating Room Committee of Mount Elizabeth Orchard Hospital and also sits on the Transplant Committee of Parkway Hospitals.

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS

In 2005, she was inducted as a fellow of the Academy of Medicine of Singapore under the Chapter of Otorhinolaryngologists of the College of Surgeons of Singapore. She has been a fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery since 2002, a member of the American Rhinologic Society since 2005, a member of Singapore Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery since 2006 and a member of Singapore Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology since 2009.

CLINICAL PRACTICE

Dr Lim’s clinical practice in ENT spans almost 2 decades and involves all aspects of ear, nose, throat, thyroid and pediatric ent conditions. Additionally, she specializes in advanced surgical techniques including the use of balloon sinuplasty, advanced endoscopic sinus techniques and stereotactic computerized navigational surgery.
